Do I dare say that People Under the Stairs is the modern version of A Tribe Called Quest?
They’ve got great beats… J. Dilla styles without the man himself…
They’ve got great vocals from Thes One and Double K, which although they aren’t the same as those from Q-Tip, Ali, Jarobi and Phife… They are unique and carry the weight and thunder that I would be confident in saying they’re fashioned out of the mold that the Tribe has made.
I could also compare them to Jurassic 5, who are another group of the Godfathers of Hip-hop and Modern Rap.
I really would say that P.U.T.S could be thrown into the category of super-rap-group with those two, NWA, Pubic Enemy and the Pharcyde; but fit more with the classic, more flowy J5 and A Tribe Called Quest.
Listen up to a couple of their songs from the past decade plus.

definitely J5 + Tribe. west coast fresh
I’ve been a fan of these guys for years and years and have to agree with you 100% I heard this in a indie snowboard videoi n a bar in Mont Tremblant and was never able to find the video but it was perfect mix. I used to be a hug hip hop guy before I went all house/electro and People Under The Stairs are probably one of a very few acts I will forever follow and support no matter what I’m into at the time. Great post.

wow this takes me back to smoking before college classes. daymn hip hop was the shit back then.
wow, blast from the past, modern styles
I respectfully disagree. Vibe-wise I suppose they’re reminiscent of ATCQ but lyrically P.U.T.S. fall incredibly short. Any hip hop head over the age of 35 will tell you that nobody compares to Tribe in their heyday.
The beats are okay but they don’t push the genre forward while Tribe evolved and changed the genre with every album from Low End (grimey) to the Love Movement (J-Dilla’s production).
Don’t get me wrong PUTS has maintained a level of success over a long period of time but I would never put them on the same classic plateau as Tribe.
