Local Natives

In 2009, there were several notable bands that debuted and went unnoticed, however much they deserved critical acclaim for their stellar works.  Among a group that has recently (as in the past week) caught my eye, the first band worth taking a look at is the Local Natives.  The band’s debut album, Gorilla Manor, is one that brings back great thoughts of one of my favorite bands, the Arcade Fire.  With great vocals, like those of Ben Folds and the Fleet Foxes and the guitar, piano and drum accompaniment, similar to the Arcade Fire, the Locals have made a deadly combination that has to be noticed soon, by everyone.  Songs like Airplanes and Stranger Things have quickly become some of my jams that I live by and will make the soundtrack to my day livelier and make me walk with a spring in my step.  Take a listen to Stranger Things and then listen to the anything by the Arcade Fire (pre The Suburbs, which is in fact a great album in it’s own rights) and tell me that the bands aren’t similar, but in a great way that is bound to propel the Natives to success.
