SAMPLE SUNDAY: The Show Goes On

As soon as this Lupe track came out I kept hearing people say that they knew this song from somewhere, yet it had just came out. Well obviously they were familiar with the sample used in the track more than the track it self, and that’s because it’s straight off of Modest Mouse’s 2004 Float On… and I mean it’s literally off of Modest Mouse’s track, instrument, melody and even the verse. The funniest part is that because Lupe’s album LASERS was fully produced by the label, he had no idea that ‘his’ song was a straight up reference to Float On while he was in the studio recording. This of course means two things (you tell me which is worse)… a) Lupe has no idea who Modest Mouse is, and b) record labels are sucking up all the creative input out of great artists to the point where they have as much say in their music as Rebeca Black does in hers.
