Skybox: In A Dream
Here’s a video that really caught my attention this week from Arizona’s Indie-Pop band Skybox. This video really reflects the band’s quirkiness, and even though it doesn’t look like it was professionally produced, it clearly draws potential listeners to their music.
Aside from the video, the tune itself is pretty damn good. I’m not the world’s biggest Indie-Pop fan, but their 2010 album Morning After Cuts has completely made me reconsider the genre. First of all I have to give it to them for their exceptional song ordering in the album, this is something I always notice when listening to any album. A lot of artists now a days don’t really pay attention to this, and for some reason they’ve started assuming that every one listens to their music on shuffle. An album should have ups and downs and not carry the same energy throughout the track. Skybox has definitely achieved this with a great contrast in mood throughout their tracks. Unfortunately this is something that you won’t be able to see through this post as I am only posting some songs and not posting the whole album. I encourage you to purchase the album if you like the tracks I’ve posted so you can see what I mean when I talk about the song ordering.
I had quite a hard time choosing which tracks to post because I liked them all a lot. I also tried listening to their 2006 album Arco Iris but it wasn’t my cup of tea, I think it was a bit too generic sounding for my taste. I’m really looking forward to hearing newer stuff by these guys.
