City and Colour: Little Hell

I was first introduced to city and colour by a random blonde girl on the tube and I must say, since then, I’ve been hooked.

Called City and Colour because of the singer’s real name, Dallas Green (a city and a colour) those who know Dallas Green from the band Alexisonfire, the sounds he presents in his solo albums will come as a surprise.

On April 5th, the first single from his third album Little Hell, Fragile Bird, was released to the radio and reached #1 on the Canadian rock/alternative chart. Earlier this month, City and Colour finally released its third and most ambitious album. If Sometimes and Bring Me Your Love brought a soft, calm, melancholic, wintery folksy sound, Little Hell brings a little more upbeat sound along with Green’s traditional soft sound. Tracks like Fragile Bird, Weightless and Natural Disaster show a new and different sound of City and Colour with its soft drumming and electric sound, straying away from Green’s usual folksy tunes. Amazingly, Green does all of this without losing his lyrical genius and heavenly voice in his songs and one may argue that this is his most honest and personal album yet. Singing about his wife’s bad dreams and his sister’s mental illness, these deeply personal topics make Little Hell a unique album on Green’s Discography.

For Dallas Green fans, this album is just another genius, work of art by him. And for new comers like me? Well, I’m just thankful that I met that random blonde girl cause if you haven’t already heard this album, you really really really need to.

Boomerang.
