I’ve been listening to a bunch of Mac Miller lately and I couldn’t help but notice how well produced the instrmentals are, most of them with really interesting samples. I was left with no choice but to choose one of his tracks for this Sample Sunday. The track that I chose is of course one of my from his 2010 mixtape K.I.D.S entitled Nikes on My Feet including samples from Nas, My Morning Jacket, and Dexter Wansel.

First, in order of appearance, like always is from a track by My Morning Jacket. Now this sample is not actually in the mixtape version of the song, it is only in that first bit that kicks of the music video, which shows Mac Miller putting on his nikes at home getting ready to sawg around town with his fresh new kicks. The track sampled by My Morning Jacket is called Wordless Chorus from their 2005 album z.

The second sample is the actual background keyboard melody that flows through the whole track in both the mixtape version and in the music video when the beat kicks in. This one is from the 1979 The Sweetest Pain disco track by Dexter Wansel.

Lastly, we have the vocal sample, from Nas’ The World Is Yours ( 2004 track. You can hear the “Nike’s om my feet make my cypher complete” sample in the original at around 1:07 into the video.
