Chicago-based Mike Kinsella has a long history in the indie-music scene, once leading the band American Football and having played alongside his brother Tim Kinsella in other groups such as Joan of Arc, Owls, and Cap’n Jazz.
His most recent solo project with Polyvinyl Records, however, has been one of his most impressive musical accomplishments yet. Simply referring to himself as “Owen,” Kinsella’s soft melodies combine a variety of instruments that complement his voice to perfection.
With more than 10 full length albums and EPs under his belt to date, Kinsella’s new “Ghost Town” was recently released on November 8th 2011, and while I have yet to hear it, I can safely predict that it will quickly become one of my favourite albums of the year. In the mean time, I suggest listening to a few of my personal favourite songs in order to get a feel for what Owen is all about.
