Throwback Thursdays: The Everly Brothers + Bob Dylan
Much like Jay, I grew up listening to most of my music in the front seat of my father’s car. Unlike Jay’s British youth, I grew up in Mexico City, where I spent countless hours of my day sitting in traffic listening to multiple albums per day. Every time I got in the car with my dad, he would ask me to grab a handful of CD’s from the glove compartment and choose whichever one I wanted. Although he would let me pick the album, the song we listened to was never up to me. My father would always tell me that an album should always be listened to in order, so whenever we listened to an album, we would listen to the whole thing, from start to end.
The only time we listened to Beatles songs in non-album order was at 9:00am and 1:00pm in “El Club de Los Beatles”, a one hour radio show where Enrique Rojas would share incredibly interesting Beatle-related facts and stories behind almost every Beatles song that you can imagine. Rojas talked a great deal about other artists that influenced “Los Beatles”, two of which I still listen to today, Bob Dylan and The Everly Brothers.
