Today I was just browsing through TBT, catching up and reading some old posts and I realized that something was missing. Although J.Cole’s new album Cole World dropped months ago, I didn’t see a post about it so here it goes folks. Cole world might be my favourite album this year. Honestly, I think I can blab on for hours about what I think about Cole World as I have done to many of my friends (including Jay) but let me try to keep it short.
My personal favourites from the album start with “Work Out“, which dropped before the album. It samples Kanye’s “New Workout Plan” and Paula Abdul’s “Straight up” into a classic J cole. “Dollar and a Dream” is also one of my favourites in the album but in this case I guess that doesn’t really mean much because this album is stacked. If I had to choose one song from the album it would be “Can’t get enough“. Not only does it have an insanely addictive sample from “Paulette” as performed by Balla et ses Balladins, I just love his flow in the song. (I really gotta give him some love for the hockey reference, I guess that’s just the Canadian in me eh?).
To me though, its not only about his addictive beats from crazy samples (remember his nike commercial sample for Blow up?)
Cole’s got something about him for me in the sense that he combines his honesty and flow in to good music. Songs like “Lost Ones“, “Never Told“ and especially “Nobody’s Perfect” magnifies that side of Cole that I have always appreciated. To cap it all off, the album also includes classic oldie J.Cole songs like “Lights Please” and “In the Morning” which were two of the songs that originally got me in to Cole World. Honestly, this album is a must listen from track 1 to 16
I really wish I could post the whole album on here but here are a few songs that will give you a little taste of what I’m talking about.
