Introducing: Il Abanico
Last year Il Abanico released the Crossing Colors EP (ilabanico.bandcamp.com) introducing a band that was able to take memorable pop moments and twist them into startling caricatures.
Working with fluent, melodic instrumentals, the vocals of Juliana Ronderos layer themselves regally, creating harmony with symmetry. Beyond the more scientific profundities of the album, the listenability and player-listener relationship is a nurtured, coddled factor that might make you subconsciously recognize the album as “simple” before understanding it’s tonal shifts in whole.
