Deer Tick – Main Street

It was the Fresh Prince himself who famously said “Parents just don’t understand.” Well Will Smith, I have to beg to differ – at least in the case of my father who seems to understand exactly my taste in music through pointing me in the direction of discovery to my new favorite band Deer Tick. From Providence, Rhode Island, Deer Tick is hard to define in terms of genre but the heartfelt emotion and playing behind each track gives a person a solid definition of what a band should be. One of my favorite tracks would have to be “Main Street” off of their most recent full-album release Divine Providence. Lyrically biting with a addictive kick-drum beat, it’s the type of song that you will incessantly play over and over again. Also, as if I could like these people more, I found out, through the internet (bless you Wikipedia!), that every so often the band plays full-out sets of all Nirvana songs under the name Deervana. So in summary, I learned a great lesson – maybe I should give my parents a call more often …
