After really enjoying Pep Rally and most of Leap Year, I had really high expectations for Hoodie Allen‘s new album All American. In both these previous mixtapes, Hoodie blends witty lyrics with great samples and beats. I remember thinking to myself, “Wow, this guy’s got serious potential.”
That being said, I listened to All American a few weeks ago and was a bit disappointed. My roommate insisted that I keep listening to it and warm up to it. It has taken a bit, but I really do like this album now. Originally, I wasn’t so impressed because Hoodie does a lot more singing that rapping on this album, but the music is just a different twist. No samples, but really catchy beats that’ll stay in your head all day. I found myself blasting “No Interruption” and “No Faith in Brooklyn” (feat. Jhameel) pretty loudly in my room yesterday.
