Yesterday we were treated to the newest album from John Mayer titled, “Born and Raised”. I’m a big fan of John Mayer and have been waiting for this release for a long time now.
This album is a bit of a wild card when it comes to John Mayer. This newest record really is a collection of all his best sounds. All the John Mayer albums, in my opinion, have only focused on one side of him as an artist. This album, in my opinion, shows them all. Whether its the overdriven blues side, or mellow acoustic melodies, all of the John Mayer musical personalities are crammed in. It has a very nostalgic sound, from the better years of popular music through sounds that mimic The Allman Brothers, The Grateful Dead, and Crosby Stills Nash & Young records. The album has a real cowboy drifter feel to it. Through some great muted guitar solos on tracks like “Something Like Olivia” or the perfect combination of vocal harmonies, clear acoustic guitars, and harmonicas on “Born and Raised“ I get a really good vibe from this album.
Three tracks to definitely check out are “Something Like Olivia“, “Born and Raised“, and “Love Is a Verb“
